John Contois, PhD. – Founder and President
John H. Contois, PhD, DABCC, FAACC has many years’ experience as Laboratory Director in both hospital and commercial laboratories, including Quest Diagnostics, the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, and LipoScience. John has also helped many laboratories as a Consultant, primarily focused on quality assurance and method validation.
John was active in the Lipoproteins and Vascular Diseases Division of the AACC since 2004, serving as Associate Editor of the “Fats of Life” newsletter from 2004 to 2009, Editor from 2015 to 2016, and lead author of a position statement on Apolipoprotein B and Cardiovascular Risk. John currently serves on the Editorial Boards of Clinica Chimica Acta, Practical Laboratory Medicine and the Journal of Clinical Lipidology. He has published more than 50 articles and book chapters, mostly in the area of lipids and lipoproteins.
John received his BS from the University of Massachusetts, Boston and his MS and PhD from the University of Connecticut. He received postdoctoral training in Clinical Chemistry at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, CT and Epidemiology and Cancer Prevention from the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX.
In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, watching British detective shows, researching family history, and writing baseball biographies.
Rae-Anne Nguyen – Vice President and General Manager
Rae-Anne Nguyen joined Sun Diagnostics in 2012 as Manager, Operations and was promoted to VP and General Manager in September 2015. For the last decade, her main focus has been on the development, manufacture, and support of products in the medical device industry. Her career roles have included research and development, manufacturing, technical support, and marketing.
Rae-Anne received her BS in Biology from the University of Southern Maine and has completed additional training and courses in 5S/LEAN, marketing, project management, and customer service.
Rae-Anne lives in Casco, ME with her husband, their son and daughter, and their dog, an old Weimaraner. She enjoys spending time outside, planning Staycations, and watching her children play.
Andre Albert – Manager of Research and Development
Andre joined Sun Diagnostics this year as Manager of Research and Development. Andre has 20 years of experience in the biotechnology industry, and over the years has developed an extensive skill set that he brings to his new role. He has been directly involved in the launch and commercialization of more than 10 products in the biotechnology industry, ranging from rapid medical diagnostics to products for agricultural testing.
Andre began his training at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. He completed a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from the University of Maine, and subsequently earned a Master of Science Degree in Applied Medical Sciences from the University of Southern Maine. He became a Staff Chemist at Binax, Inc. in 1996, and in 1999 joined the University of Southern Maine as a Laboratory Manager and Instructor. In 2004, he returned to industry as a Chemist for Inverness Medical Innovations and then in 2006, joined EnviroLogix as a Senior Scientist. Andre has also consulted for local biotechnology companies.
Andre has published in the Journal of the Association of Analytical Communities (AOAC), and has presented several posters at scientific conventions, including AOAC International Conferences and Gordon Conference Sessions. Other achievements include receiving the University Of Maine Biology Award for highest Departmental GPA in 1993, a 1994 American Heart Association fellowship, and the University of Southern Maine Applied Medical Sciences Department Alumni of the Year in 2004.
Andre lives in Gray, Maine with his wife and son. He enjoys coaching baseball, playing hockey and collecting sports cards.
